How can I Track Customers Associated with a magazine ad?

I haven't decided whether to use ZenCart yet or not. I have a certain function that I am looking for at present. I will be tracking activity associated with advertisements placed, such as, creating a sub-folder in my website that will be linked to individual ads. But I also want to be able to track if that customer completes a purchase. It has been suggested that a tracking of the IP might be a way to do this, but the shopping cart that comes with my host isn't advanced enough to set up this process. This is how it was suggested to me "I could code a script that follows an IP (ex 111.222.333.444) from a particular referral URL (where ever the ad is located). The script would follow that IPs session and check to see if it completes a transaction (you would have to interface the script with whatever eCommerce solution you're using)." My question is if this is something that is possible to set-up with ZenCart? Also, I am on a shared server. And if this is possible, any guidance on how to set this up will be greatly appreciated.
