Out of Province Tax Regulations

Hi
I am setting up a store for a Canadian client. She has a physical retail clothing store and would like to offer her products online, using Zen-Cart.

It is on the brink of being launched, there is simply one problem I've been struggling with for a few days. Canadian taxes are configured via the tutorial for nationwide sales and all provinces are charged the appropriate taxes.

BUT, all references I've found, on this site, the gov't of Canada, Alberta, BC and Ontario sites say you should consult a tax professional to determine whether or not you're going to be charging PST/RST/GST or HST for online sales to another province. Numerous articles state you need to apply for a vendor license or permit in that province to be able to do business there, and collect all the applicable taxes.

My question is simply for Zen-Cart admins who are running a single instance of Zen out of one province - and selling to others. Did you or did your tax pro apply for these permits individually from each province? Maybe the tax pro can do them all at once? Is it an arduous process? I'd like to be able to advise my client how to deal with it, be able to finalize my work on the site, and not discourage her from going forward with the launch because of bureaucratic details.

Don't worry, I won't hold anybody accountable for giving me misinformation and she will be consulting a pro, I'm just looking for guidance on how you may have dealt with it.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Out of Province Tax Regulations

Your client's tax pro will probably tell her that she doesn't need to collect taxes for any provinces where she doesn't have a physical presence.
But, if it is necessary for her to register permits, etc, then she will have to do that herself.
