USPS suddenly stopped working on all sites

Hi.

We are getting flooded with calls regarding our clients' zencart installs. All of a sudden it now won't give out any shipping quotes for USPS. Hence their customers are unable to checkout.

How can we resolve this? We are hosting multiple zencart sites with different versions, 1.3.7 and 1.3.8a. And we are in no position to upgrade each of them to 1.3.9 as we only host them.

Please advice.

Yes I have installed the update. It worked fine for 2 days. now it stopped working again.....

I'm puzzled....

any suggestions?

Usually, when quotes just stop working, you will see a delay on getting to the checkout_shipping which is an indication that the USPS server is having issues ... as has been suggested to you ...

Is USPS working for you now?

If not, it might be a good idea to call USPS and ensure that your account is still setup to work on the Production Server ... this has from time to time been reset by USPS and needs to be turned back on ...

after digging around further, i noticed something very strange.

if i log into our server and restart apache, then usps starts working again....then it will stop again after a day or two, until I restart httpd again.

The weird thing is everything else is working on the server just usps.

why is it requiring me to restart? php works, mysql works....everything but the usps module....

any suggestions??

It almost sounds like you are having port issues ...

Next time it stops working, install UPS and just see if it fails too ...

Does the checkout_shipping hang for a long period of time when it stops working? :unsure:

the ups continues to work.

nothing hangs for a long time as well...it just does not show any usps shipping available.

Does this happen on any particular Ship To address or to all addresses?

What weight are you working with?

What are your settings in the Shipping/Packaging?

Do you have all shipping methods turned on or just some? If just some, which ones?

I am using 1.3.8 with your updated usps module for 1/4/2010 B.

I did not change anything pertaining to USPS except changed the the name to USPS in languages/modules/shipping/usps.php and changed some of the names of the shipping in includes/modules/shipping/usps.php, like Priority Mail to Standard Mail, Flat Rate to Small Items and so forth. but these should not even be related as those are just syntax. Besides, this was already happening even before I changed their names.

Also, how come it works again after i restart httpd. Very weird.

I really cannot say why you have to restart the httpd on your server to get things working again ...

Perhaps speak with whoever is supplying you your server and see if they have any ideas as to the cause to the problem ...

uhmm....it's our servers actually. I'm the admin and I don't see anything in the logs to indicate any failure on my end. that's why i'm puzzled in the first place.

no ports are blocked incoming or outgoing except for ssh. Also, NAT is working correctly as well as all the services.

And if it was the server itself, how come only usps is failing? everything else is working, ups, php scripts, awstats, like everything....

we also run latest updates of OS.

Could you zip your usps.php file and attach it so I can just see if any of your changes have goobered something up? :unsure:
