Admin logs out

I have a fairly new store, which has been upgraded to 1.3.9c.

I can log in to the admin page but once I have done that, if I select any link from the admin menus, I'm taken back to the log in page.

Can anyone tell me how I can get this working again?

With the little information you provide, I can only suggest that you look at the admin configure.php file.

I seem to have fixed the problem by disabling the SSL for the admin. This was working fine with 1.3.9 until I applied 1.3.9b. I then applied 1.3.9c to see if that fixed it but it didn't. The timing of the problem appearing after patch 1.3.9b was applied could of course be coincidental.

Why would enabling SSL affect the admin in this way?
