Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

Hello,
ref: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123871
funny I'm experiencing the same type of issue this soon after previous thread..

I'm using version 1.3.9c and having downloading issues.

Started with not being able to upload files to Media Directory as they were too big, the files range between 4- 20 MB so I followed the advice on a previous thread to upload a smaller version through zen cart admin and then replace it directly with the "real" file on ftp. As of current the files are both in the Media directory as well as in Download, this is something I still didn't find the answer to, why do yu have gto use both diretories, or do you,(Is it me who's got it wrong?)

Next, I had the "source file could not be read" issue and solved that by turning off the Gzip compression, right.. so then I was thinking to myself; finally, weeks of agony finally over...but now I download my "test" purchased mp3 and as it saves to the computor it is 8kb small, when supposed to be 12,6 MB. :frusty:

Can it be the fact that I "cheated" when uploading the files or maybe the simple answer is I need to change the titles so they have no spaces and adding underlines instead or the php.ini - max_execution_time which has been driving me nuts since there seems to be no easy way of getting that right unless you're a programmer profffesionally.. :censored:

Can someone please shed some light, this is the final piece of the puzzle before we can open the store and go live, with a product launch that is long over due...

Thanks in advance!

Also, maybe somone could write a Step-by-step guide from start to finish when uploading large files (larger than 2MB) and what to think about (functions that should be off/on etc.)

Re: Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

Forgot to mention that as it downloads and saves the file is renamed with underlines in title all though there are no underlines in title in directory or in admin and they all have the green cirle next to them.. / Manya

Re: Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

Maybe I should also add that my files are uploaded not as zip-files but as seperate mp3 files.

Checklist:
Gzip compression off
Green dot next to mp3s in admin
File visible and clickable in clients account
Tried downloading with and without php.ini file with max_execution_time set to 900 in server root.
Tried with/without download by redirect and streaming.
Tried changing path name in configure.php to shop/pub

I'm out of suggestions, someone, anyone?

Yes, you need to make the titles without spaces.

Ok, so renamed the file in Download dir by adding underscores instead of spaces, uploaded the file again to Media directory/ as a Media collection, added the new title with underscores
in attributes, file has green dot, did a testbuy again and still the same problem, file is 8 kb small.

Have e-mailed my host one.com about the unsticking safemode part, waiting for a response...

Any other suggestions? So ready for this to work now...

Re: Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

...So like I said, the changing the spaces to underscores didn't work, what I have is basically a file that changes the spaces to underscores before the download and then turns up
almost empty (8kb) on the computor. I then tried to change the spaces to underscores in the original title but the file still comes out empty...

Any more suggestions from anyone, anyone experiencing the same problem in 1.3.9c?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

Your problem is most likely something wrong with your webserver configuration.
I can't recreate your problem on any of my several servers. And I'm not aware of anyone else reporting the same problem.
I think it's going to be tough to figure out what's wrong with your hosting company's server. It would be faster and simpler and much less headaches if you simply copied your site to another hosting company's server where downloads work properly.

Re: Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

Thanks for the response Dr byte! I ave now talked to my server host and they've tried downloading the files through the customer login page as well as directly from the server and the problem with the file being too small only happens when downloading through zen cart. They say it must be a problem in the scripting and that they therefore can't help any further..

Surely it must have someting to do with the fact that the files are relatively large: between 5-20 MB`?

I have entered a php.ini in the rootfile on the server, raising
max_execution_time to 10 min and file download size to 100MB,maybe it's just not working?

How should I move on if changing server is not an option?

Thanks again!

Re: Downloads save with underscores and wrong size

I still haven't found a way to recreate this problem despite trying to break it in numerous ways.

What's your site URL?
