Stef, you said you made a backup of your site, right? Well, if you made a FULL backup, and used gzip, then your backup should look something like this:
backup-5.27.2010_22-46-19_getemfas.tar.gz (That's one of my old backups)
When......and ONLY when DrByte and the turorial tells you to import your database to your NEW site, you will open up this zipped folder. In there you will find a file called "mysql.sql". THAT'S the sql file that you want to import. **But, read further before proceeding!
**
Almost all hosts limit the amount of MiB that you can upload, and usually that's not NEAR enough for a whole Zen-Cart database. So your better off to create a backup of your database, by it self, to import to your new site (see below).
If you ONLY created an sql backup, it should look something like this:
zc1.sql.gz ** (zc1 is the name of my database....yours will start with the name of your database.)
Then you would import that into your database, as is.....do NOT unzip**. phpMyAdmin will do that on it's own.
Hope that helps clear up the "mysterious" sql file problem for you.
