Free virtual downloadable product immediate download

Version: Zen Cart 1.3.9c

I believe I have my virtual products set up correctly (free, downloadable PDF files). The problem is that after a user places the order, it should move immediately past the "pending" stage, to where the download is available right away. Currently, I (as the administrator) have to change the order's status manually, and then the user needs to view the order history. This is much too cumbersome.

I'm still not entirely clear with the overall process for the store owner, with respect to payment processing, shipping details, etc., but I'm learning.

I suspect the problem is with one of these settings. Can someone please walk me through the configuration changes needed to allow users to down free virtual products immediately after a purchase?

Check in your admin's Configuration->Attribute Settings. There are two settings there:

Downloads Controller Order Status Value >= lower value
Downloads Controller Order Status Value <= upper value

These define the Order Status value range within which downloads are "allowed".

Then check in Modules->Payment. That will show the default Order Status value for an order processed with each payment type.

See that the values "line up".

I tried it out, setting the min value to 1. It appears to work in that when a user buys the item, they can download immediately.

This is work for me for the time being, but not in the future. Currently, I only have free virtual items. In the future, I will also have paid virtual items.

What I'd like to have is as follows:

• free virtual items can be downloaded immediately
• paid virtual items must have their payment processed first

Can anyone tell me how to configure this?

You could set the Zen Cart Free Charge Card freecharger to Processing and your other modules to Pending that should not allow immediate download ...

What Payment Modules are you using?

Well, I'm not sure -- that's part of the problem. I'm setting up my merchant account et. al and will eventually be processing my payments using Authorize.net (AIM), I believe. I don't think I'll be allowing any of the others.

I see the option for "Zen Cart Free Charge Card". Do I need to configure this?

Each Payment Module allows you to set the Order Status for when the Order is completed and the Order Status is what allows the Download to be available immediately or after the Order Status has been updated in your Admin ...

Order Status of Processing (orders_status 2) and Order Status Delivered (orders_status 3) and Order Status Updated (orders_status 4) all do allow for an immediate download when the Order is complete ...

The Order Staus Update (orders_status 4) is used for when you need to "extend" the Download maximum downloads and maximum days ...

The Update will adjust these to how many days from the date of order plus the default number of days and back to how many times they may download back to the default number ...

google checkout doesn't let me set the order status.. it shows 'default'.. any ideas how to change this??
