New Zen Cart user - need info on addons

I have installed Zen Cart for the first time and I am quite overwhelmed at all the features.

What Add on Modules do you recommend installing? I want to add all the bells and whistles right away and build the site as completely as possible.

For instance if you install phpBB after you have a user base it is hard to sync up the user names and passwords from Zen Cart. It is better to install phpBB from the start. Which I have already done successfully.

So what should I add straight out of the gate?

I will be selling electronics and one of the things I know I want is live chat support.

You have this backwards.

There are over a thousand add-ons for Zen Cart designed to extend your site for specific purposes. But there's no point in adding (for example) a complex module to sell books if you're not actually going to sell books.

And there's a huge downside to adding modules, when you upgrade, you will need to look at each all of the changes made to install each module to work out whether they need to replicated in the upgraded site. So they can become a huge obstacle to keeping you site up-to-date.

A much better approach is, as you do towards the end of your post, to work out what you site needs and then go looking for the mods that add those specific snippets of functionality.
