Enabling use of shared SSL cert. requires files moved to "secure" folder

I was reading this tutorial on how to enable SSL

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=14

The SSL on my site is working but my host, because it is a shared cert, requires the files that are accessed securely to be in the "mysite.com/secure" folder instead of the "mysite.com/public" folder. When I enable SSL according to the above tutorial it get 404 upon checkout. I would imagine if I moved or copied some zen cart files over to the mysite.com/secure folder I could get it working but I have no idea of what files to move/copy over there or if doing that would break anything?

I can put a test html file in /secure and I'm able to access it securely so I know that the cert is installed. But the htpps request is looking for files in /secure and not /public/shop (which is where my zen cart is installed.)

Do you think I could just copy some files over and get it working that way? I could probably just copy over the entire zen cart folder and get it working but then I would have 2 copies of everything, that both have to be maintained, which I would imagine is more difficult

Thanks!

Re: Enabling use of shared SSL cert. requires files moved to "secure" folder

This is one of the major problems with some shared SSL configurations.

Basically, you need to DUPLICATE your entire site (folders and files) in the secure directory.

If there is a way in your host c-panel to COPY your folders and files, then do it that way.

Otherwise, FTP your entire site to your hard drive and then send it back up to the secure directory.

NB; you will also need to make appropriate edits to the configure.php files to specify the Secure location...

... and you will have to make sure that any changes to any files you make will have to be copied to both folders. (a dedicated certificate would probably eliminate this)

... yes... I currently have a client who insists on hosting with one of these steam-driven companies. There is a httpdocs folder and a httpsdocs folder... and each and every change has to be committed to BOTH folder sets.
