Wrong Images attached to products

I tried searching for the answer to this but didn't find one. Sorry if the question is repeated.

In our zen cart several products have mysteriously had images added to them for other products. The most recent is a brand new product that was just added to the store and somehow random product images got attached to it.

For one product I deleted the images that shouldn't be there, but then it deleted them from the correct product too. Does that make sense?

I don't know why this is happening. Can someone shed some light for me?

From the information provided, not really.

Are these mysteriously appearing images ones that you recognize or are they completely alien to your store?

If alien (eg: adverts for enhancement drugs, etc) then I suspect you have probably been hacked, but you haven't said anything to backup this speculation.

I'm afraid we are going to have to start with the 'usual' questions, such as what version of zencart, what kind of hosting (wamp/lamp), what add-ons are you using, etc. Also do you have a URL so that we can check various links, etc... Basically, any more info that you can provide may take us one step closer to solving your mystery.

Ok, I read through that, but I'm not sure.... Here's the file names of the wrong images:

preview_smt4_template1
previewtest1

The product is called Unbroken Circle and the image that is supposed to be attached is called preview.

Do you think because it is called preview that it pulled every image that has preview in the name??? That's aggravating. There were more attached but I started deleting them before I wrote here. They probably also started with preview.

From the tutorial:

"Right now since you have one product with "abc.jpg" as the name, and another product with "abcde.jpg" as the name, both images will show for the "abc.jpg" product, because "abc" is common to both, and "abc" is the full filename of the main image of one of the products."

Exactly what you have with the preview main image.

You'll have to rename something.

Right, ok, so I do understand that the images loaded because they said preview. Now, how do I structure the file naming system so that this DOESN'T happen?

Here's what I mean. Our store is a digital scrapbooking site with multiple designers. If I have an image called KDD_KITNAME, where KITNAME always changes but KDD stays the same, will it pull every photo that has KDD in it? Or only if the filename was KDD. Does my question make sense? It makes sense in my head... I want to tell the designers how to name their files properly so this doesn't keep happening.

Only if the main image is called KDD.jpg, say.

If the main image is KDD_KITNAME.jpg, you should be able to have an additional image on another product named KDD_FOOBAR.jpg without a problem. You couldn't have an image on another product named KDD_KITNAME_1.

It's all about the name of the main product image.
