htaccess question

Much smarter security protections are included in v1.3.9.
Would the 1.3.9 htaccess files work with a fully patched 1.3.8a installation? I was not able to get 1.3.9 to install correctly for some reason but would like the same htaccess protection that is built into 1.3.9 on my 1.3.8a sites. Can I just copy the 1.3.9 htaccess files over to the 1.3.8a sites without any modification? Thought I'd ask instead of testing on a live site.....

Without knowing what it is about your environment that prevented you from being able to upgrade to 1.3.9, this question can't be answered.

And if you could find out what prevented it, then the best path would be to use that information to unblock your upgrade.
