turning off a sub category and categories in general

Hi, some of my sub categories do not have any products in yet so I do not wish for them to be displayed while I work on adding products. However when I disable the category in the admin it's being displayed on my website. I tried turning off a main category and same thing happens, it's still displayed. How can I turn categories off while I'm working on them so that they are hidden from view on the website?

My site is at http://www.thegreatgiftshop.co.uk/zencart

You're doing it right - just click the green button to turn it red, and the category shouldn't display.

Any other admin functions that don't seem to work ?

No its definitely red and the category is still being displayed on the left hand side. Is this because I have a categories display mod installed?? and If so how can i make it so that the categories can be hidden from the admin and actually be hidden as they should be!

The Category Listing Box mod's class file does not have any mechanism to recognize a disabled category; it lists them all.
The Uncollapsed Category Tree mod (available from its author's site or in Categories Dressing) can display the categories the same way, but uses the standard controls.

Ok thanks, I guess I'll have to install the mod you mention then or just not put categories in untill I have products in them.
