Can't get rid of HEADING_TITLE

I've struggled with this problem for two days before asking for help. I installed Zen Cart from my Fantastico Panel of Host Gator. I installed the Cherry Zen Template, I've followed the instructions many times on how to get rid of the Congratulations message. I managed to do that, after MANY attempts, but I still have the words Home, HEADING_TITLE and TEXT_GREETING_GUEST that I want to get rid of.

I edited the index file, taking out the message, and other posters said I didn't have to have an acutual message as long as I left the ' - I did that. Then, if I understood the instructions correctly, I was to reload the edited index.php file to the languages/english/cherry zen folder. I did that and nothing happened.

So I went back and I put the edited index.php file in the languages/english folder that I originally found it in, and now I get the HEADING_TITLE message. I managed to get rid of the Congratulations message, but now this is appearing.

So then I went back to the index.php folder, thinking that if I took out the HEADING_TITLE, that it would go away. I did it in two places, and left the beginning and ending ' - it is still showing up.

I hope I've been explicit with this, I am just going in circles here.

here's my test site - http://redkapworkwear.com/testsetup

Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm thinking that once I get the barebones of this working that the rest will start to fall in place. Here's to hopin' anyway....

I DID IT, I actually built a working cart, with the help of so many of you, Stevesh, Schoolboy, RescoCCC, to name a few. I just take one bite out of the elephant at a time and try to keep my sense of humor...

Re: Can't get rid of HEADING_TITLE

****You have to leave both single quotes.

In index.php:

define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', '');

define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', '');

You can't just remove the defines from the file, either. When Zencart looks for that define, if it isn't defined as anything, it just uses the define name, as you're seeing.

After editing, that file would go in includes/languages/english/cherry_zen

BTW, if you don't want to change that message, but just get rid of it, it's turnoffable in Admin - Configuration - Layout Settings

Re: Can't get rid of HEADING_TITLE

Steve, maybe I just need to reinstall Zen Cart, for the gadzillionth time and do as you suggested. I didn't know I had the option you told me about.

I feel like I'm in grade school here, trying to do college level work. This has been a humbling experience, for sure!

Re: Can't get rid of HEADING_TITLE

We all started out in grade school.

It looks like you still aren't clear on how to edit defines.

In my edited file,

Showcase vs Store if (STORE_STATUS == '0') { define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', ''); } else { define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', ''); }

That's what it looks like after my edits.

Yours looks like this:

Showcase vs Store if (STORE_STATUS == '0') { define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', 'Welcome <span class="greetUser">Guest!</span> Would you like to <a href="%s">log yourself in</a>?'); } else { define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', 'Welcome, please enjoy our online showcase.'); }

so you haven't removed the part that you need to.

Think of it like this:

define('TABLE_HEADING_PRODUCTS', 'Product Name'); means that TABLE_HEADING_PRODUCTS is defined as 'Product Name'. Every time a Zencart file calls for TABLE_HEADING_PRODUCTS, this will substitute 'Product Name'. It saves having to hard-code 'Product Name' on every page where it might be used, and makes it simple to change that define site-wide.

You could probably try setting that admin option without re-installing.
