Pure Green Free Trying to Keep the Right Column From Flying Out

Hi,

I have not had any success in fixing the problem of getting the right column temporarily flying out before correcting itself.:(

So I'm hoping some css guru may be able to point me in the correct direction?

The maker of the template told me that I should "hard code" the table layout of the center column.

I'm not seeing the 'flyout'. Is it a browser thing, or only on some pages ?

Ive used firefox, i.e and chrome, all have that fly out when initially get to the home page then when you click on the products, the right column momentarily moves to the far right before correcting itself.

Initially I thought it might be because of the server slowing down or internet connection while the center column loads, but I also have it on my localhost and it does the same thing.

It seems like the center is pushing out the right column and then the right column has to repaint itself. Is there anywhere that you define the width of the center column? Has it done this since the day you installed it?

I downloaded and installed the PureGreenFree Template to my Test site and I can't get it to do what yours does. Hmm, there is also 2 version of this out there, but I believe I got the same one you have as the authors name is the same (12leaves.com), but your CSS has several additions to it, so I copied your css to my site and still I could not get it to do what yours does.
You'll have to backtrack thru what you have done to your site and try to see what was added that may have caused this problem. It apparently is NOT the css. Like you said, it looks like it's a slow response from the server, but you say you are running it locally and have the same problem. Did you check your error logs in the cache folder to see if any errors are being reported?

Is this in an ezpage or ? It's one of the things that stretches out past the center for a brief time then gets pushed into 2 lines by the right side.

I really appreciate that you went to such lengths to try and solve the problem!

Taking your cue and back tracking. I found that one of the reasons it was flying out to the right on the main page is the addition of Google Translate insert on the mid bottom. When the main page was loading it was trying to fetch Google translate and so it was taking time for it to load before the right column would appear or correct itself.

I found the same problem when I tried to put Twitter badges or facebook.

Is there a way to prevent this? Google translate is an essential part of my site since I get a lot of non english speakers visiting. I do not wish to add different languages to the site but having a quick translate tool is great.

Is there a CSS rule that can isolate this piece of code and have it load last or something and not affect the others?

**As for the other pages doing the same thing, I'm still investigating this.

Sadly, putting it in a sidebox will not help it at all. I used to have a GoDaddy SSl seal that takes it's information from GoDaddy on a sidebox. When I had this on a sidebox, the whole page would stall while waiting to load the information that is fetched from GoDaddy.

So finally, I fixed this by hosting the image and just making it clickable if people wanted to click on it and get more information.

I guess that means there is no way to isolate a third party code with css huh?

Not that I am aware of as far as CSS goes.

So you use Google Translate to translate your site for non-english speaking persons. Have you ever asked anyone using it if it does a good job of translating?
The reason I ask is that the company I work for has offices in Spain and Italy. I wanted to translate some items into those languages and when I showed them what Google had translated it to (the people in those locations), they said that it did not translate properly. It could be what I was having translated, I don't know, we are a Marine Parts manufacturer and it was about marine parts.
Does it only Translate the main page?

Google does a decent job of translating it. It is not perfect but it will at least translate the gist of the information so that non English folks will understand the general idea.

My mom is Japanese and she says that the translation in Japanese is not as good but it conveys the general idea.

If you put a Google translate on a page, it will only translate the page it is on. I guess you can add it to the header portion then it will be available to translate whatever page the person is on when visiting your site.

If the company is willing to invest in paying for good translation then you should go with that. Otherwise if it is just for info (general idea) not perfect, easy to use tool, then Google translate is the choice. Hope that helps!
