VAT/TAX question

i have a question which i need to pick people brains about and its as follow....

Q: do i need to set up a tax/vat option in zencart? in that could my tax be set to 0?

We are a vat registered company and all our items are taxable but do i really need to have the tax option setup? by not having the tax set this would allow me to put the price stright into the site as the sale price (inc vat) and than prices shown on admin, customer and more importanly on the Easy populate prices download will all be the sale price inc vat. This way i dant have to worry about removing 17.5% of sale prices when updating prices via easy populate.

what effect will this have on payment moduals.. invoices and recipts if i set my vat to 0%???

Re: VAT/TAX question

If you have no tax, the system doesn't do any tax calculations. Simple as that. I ran a store for a non-profit for several years, and I just ignored that whole section. If VAT is included in the listing price, you could do the same thing.

However, I have no idea if that's legal. Laws may require you to separately state and display the tax from the price. SO what you're describing is do-able, but you may want to do some homework on the extraneous effects to your business. A call to an accountant might be in good order.
