Turning on Category Name and Descriptions

A long time ago I had turned off category name and descriptions for my template and now i want to turn it back on and I can't remember how to do it.

I would like name and descriptions for sub categories. The website is Stonegifts and each link in the gift categories is a link to the sub category page, right now they just have banner images but I would like it to be Image, then category text, then the description.

How do I turn the category text back on?

Looked at your site and not sure what you are after. but have you tried Admin/Configuration/Layout Settings/Categories - Always show on main page?

Several other settings in this menu govern how categories and sub-categories are displayed.
