Trying to duplicate an entire ZC site & db

I am making a wholesale version of a retail web site for a client. I made a new directory in their root named "buywholesale" and had ZC 1.3.9d installed by GoDaddy. I then copied all my custom files from Shop and loaded them into their respective places in Buywholesale. I also downloaded the database from Shop and uploaded it to the Buywholesale database hoping when I was done I'd had a duplicate of the original site. Then I could just go in and change prices and other minor things. Not so.

Here's what the original ZC site looks like: http://herdoos.com

Here's what the new site looks like: http://herdoos.com/buywholesale

Pretty messed up.

My custom navigation on the left is missing, search is missing, my Flash is missing and although the categories are picked up from the database, the products are not recognized as being assigned to the categories. I looked in the new db and the products are there. When I log into Admin/Product Types it shows 91 products under Product - General, so it knows there in there somewhere.

Questions:

  1. Can you tell what files I failed to move over to the new directory? I'm so frazzled right now I can't remember my own name.

  2. How to assign already existing products to the categories?

  3. Where is the information from Admin/Configuration get stored? I thought it would be in the main database, but the information didn't transfer and it would be so much easier to just duplicate it from the original site.

Answers would not only be greatly appreciated, but you will be bestowed with good karma for the rest of your life.

I have used this method for setting set up test sites both on the web and on a local system with WAMP.

Good luck! ... especially with Godaddy.

Re: Trying to duplicate an entire ZC site & db

Background: I wanted to duplicate an existing ZC shop, database and all, on a server. The original ZC is in a directory named "shop" and the duplicate is in a directory named "buywholesale".

I followed instructions per instructions given here: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=100 and the new site looks good except I have a new problem: I can't access Admin in the new site. Instead I get this error message: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.More information about this error may be available in the server error log.Apache/1.3.33 Server at https://www.herdoos.com Port 80

I've spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out what's wrong. Error log shows nothing.

Original ZC: http://www.herdoos.com/shop/
New ZC: http://www.herdoos.com/buywholesale/ (I need to get into Admin to check the link for the Flash presentation)

I can't help but feel its just a minor adjustment to one of the duplicate files, but don't know enough to figure it out. PLEASE HELP!!!:frusty:

Still not working, can anyone help?

I did find myDEBUG-adm error messages which I don't understand but may be a clue for you:

Re: Trying to duplicate an entire ZC site & db

I'm new to zen cart so I have yet to try anything on it, but I do remember seeing a "wholesale" module in addons for zencart. Maybe you can try that route.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I don't seem to be having much luck with support.

Re: Trying to duplicate an entire ZC site & db

Just to tie up loose ends for anyone else who experiences the problem I had: I realized by looking at the source code on one of my pages that there was an incorrect path to some of the graphics. I'd used Dreamweaver's FTP and apparently it had made some "updates" to the files prior to uploading, which messed up many things.

To fix, I ended up completely deleting my new directory on the server, downloaded a fresh copy of the old directory to my desktop, renamed it to the new directory and then uploaded using my web host's ftp client which I knew would not alter any files. After that was done I uploaded the two config files pointing to the new database.

Not only does the new web site appear in all its glory, but I can also log into the Admin panel.
