Gift Certificate Does Not Require Payment Method

During checkout, I have discovered a circumstance when I apply a lesser Gift Certificate amount than the total purchase, checkout allows me to Confirm My Order when full payment has not been met. In other words, I am NOT prompted for a payment method when the Gift Certificate apply amount is close to the order total. This means an order can be completed without full payment.

Gift Certificate balance: $100
Order Total: 64.58
Apply Amount: $64.50
Confirm Order Total: $0.08

On the other hand, if the Gift Certificate Apply Amount is only $50, checkout DOES prompt for an alternate payment method.

What is the "leeway" on lacking full payment with Gift Certificates for order completion?

What Payment methods do you have installed?

When you get to the checkout_confirmation page, what do you see for the Payment Method?

Payment modules installed:
Credit cards
Checks/Money Orders

PayPal Express is also installed (displayed on payment page) but it is not configured yet. I still have to set up the API credentials. Is that the problem?

The catch is I have another website with the same domain name using PayPal and I am not yet ready to make my ZenCart site "live."

On the checkout confirmation page, under Payment Method, it is totally blank...

So far I cannot reproduce this as it always asks for a payment method when my Apply Amount is lower than the order ...

Are you using any add ons related to the checkout?

Ahh, it must be the local sales tax mod...I did some more testing. I only charge local sales tax for in-state purchases. When I change the shipping address to out-of-state, I always get prompted for payment method. When I have an in-state shipping address, I don't get prompted for payment method if the Gift Certificate amount is less than the total order amount. Where do I go from here? What do you suggest?

Are you using the Order Total module Tax ot_tax or something else?

No, my only mods are Links Manager, X-sell and Local Sales Tax. Do you want me to PM my website address to you, and a test account ID/password, so you can duplicate this situation?

I forgot to ask you what version of Zen Cart are you using and is it a clean version or an upgraded site?

I'm using Zen Cart 1.39d - very recent upgrade from 1.38a...

Let me try another fresh install but so far, I cannot repeat this issue in v1.3.9d but I need to make sure I didn't add an update to my version ... :smile:

Well good news ... I cannot repeat it ... bad news ... I cannot repeat it ... :blink:

Either you have an odd configuration or you have a bad upgrade on the files on the server ...

A few methods to test this:

1 change to Classic Template ... does it still happen?

2 go to each Module for Payment, Shipping and Order Totals and edit each to save the current settings to NotePad and then do a REMOVE, INSTALL and reconfigure them ... does it still happen?

3 install a test directory with a clean Zen Cart v1.3.9d and make a test database with a copy of your database and run the Upgrade Database only on the test database ... does it still happen?

4 install a test directory with a test database with the demo products and see if you can recreate the problem ... does it still happen?
