Virus in Download? According to McAfee SiteAdvisor

I am trying to download the 1.3.9 version of Zen Cart. I started at the Zen-Cart.com site. The download took me to Sourceforge.net. When I started my download my McAfee virus software came up with a warning that the download file contains potentially dangerous programs.

This is the second time I have tried to download Zen Cart 1.3.9. I originally downloaded it on another PC and I started setting up my site. But for some reason I can not access my site from that PC anymore. When I enter my site IP address I get redirected to a site called Sedoparking.com. The site is accessible from other PC's just not that one. My thinking was I would just work on my site from my other PC. But now I am thinking Zen Cart 1.3.9 has some kind of virus or malware or something. The first PC I downloaded to uses CA virus software not McAfee. Apparently that is why my original download did not get flagged as dangerous.

Anyone else having similar problems.

The official Zen Cart download zips are hosted on SourceForge and do not contain any viruses, despite whatever McAffee might claim.

OK - so if I go a head and do the download and then I can't get to my site from my only remaining PC can I count on you DrByte to help me resolve my redirect issue - grin.

Any idea why I am having that problem on my other PC. The only site that I have that issue with is my new Zen Cart site. To me it has to be something in my Zen Cart code doing the redirect. But I don't understand why only that one PC is being redirected.

McAfee is a lousy AV program. And you have to pay for it to boot! There are plenty of great free alternatives.

I strongly suggest you check out Avira Antivir Free Anitvirus. I'm a reformed IT admin, and I use it on all my own personal systems. Totally free, you just have to close an ad after the daily update (a fair trade, IMO).

I always think I should duck when I recommend a Microsoft product, but if you use Windows, Microsoft Security Essentials does a good job for me (also free).

Re: Virus in Download? According to McAfee SiteAdvisor

Someone else reported a problem with their website redirecting to sedoparking.com and it turned out to be a problem with their ISP, which was resolved by disconnecting their broadband from the mains power supply, shutting down their PC for 10 minutes and rebooting.

If however you are using Google links and those get redirected then your PC has a virus. You need to go here for how to fix it (first post):
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/How-to-fix-Google-Redirects-t267407.html

My own PC had AVG Pro (latest Malware version) running, plus Windows Firewall, plus the router hardware firewall and this little sod still managed to get through everything. Following this advice killed it stone dead.

Re: Virus in Download? According to McAfee SiteAdvisor

McAfee is reporting a problem, but the problem is at their end. It's a false positive and they're not responding very well to the problem (I don't think their support people really understand the concept of a release pack or a false positive - which is a bit worrying given the reliance that some of us place on it).

Not sure that they really understand service either from the experiences that I'm having trying to get information out of them about how to get this corrected in database - but that's a different story.

Wow. Sloppy shoulders or what?

I've now had two McAfee service reps close the chat window while I was still typing into it. They don't answer direct questions and can't wait to get rid of this issue.

Let's repeat keywords like "McAfee," "support," and "bad customer experiences" a few more times, in hopes that this thread shows up in search results for people who are looking for new antivirus software.

Re: Virus in Download? According to McAfee SiteAdvisor

OK. Past first line support and the initial response from McAfee is "Upon analysis the file submitted does not appear to contain one of the 200,000 known threats in the AutoImmune database."

It still needs a 2nd level of review and then hopefully they'll update their database to remove this false positive.

That may not happen immediately though, as it's clear that their whole process is geared to finding viruses and other problem, rather than dealing with the fallout when they accidentally identify one that doesn't really exist.

Re: Virus in Download? According to McAfee SiteAdvisor

I know that I reported earlier in this thread that a Malware virus got past AVG Malware Pro, but that was due to a Microsoft problem and not AVGs fault.

I moved to AVG Pro from McAfee, because McAfee Anit-Virus and Firewall was useless. It told you about a virus alright - immediately after letting it through. After reformatting the hard drive twice and reloading all programmes I dumped McAfee and switched to AVG Pro.

Re: Virus in Download? According to McAfee SiteAdvisor

Thanks for all the replies on this issue. I think I have finally figured it out and thought I would let you know what I found. I did the virus or malware removal listed above but it found no errors and did not correct my problem.

As I mentioned before I have 2 PC's I was having problems with. One I have McAfee virus protection on and the other I was using CA Internet Security Plus Suite software. The PC with CA is the one I was having the most trouble with. I also have Norton loaded on the PC with CA - but I had it turned off because it was slowing the cpu down too much. Since my CA and McAfee scans came up clean I thought I would try the Norton scan. So I turned on my Norton to run a scan. To get my Norton on for some reason I had to turn off my CA firewall.

No surprise my Norton scan was clean also. But I soon realized I was no longer getting redirected every time on that PC like I was before. And my FTP was now working. The only problem I still had was my File Manager still didn't work from my website cPanels. So I turned off all my CA security. Now everything is working fine.

So I don't really know what happened. I have no idea how virus software on one PC could affect another on the same network. But it appears my problem was some malfunction in my CA Internet Security Plus Suite software.

Thanks again for your replies.
