Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

v1.3.8a

We need to track where our email enquiries are coming from, therefore we need to place the Google Analytics conversion tracking code on the contact us confirmation page, i.e.

http://www.surveyequipment.com/index.php?main_page=contact_us&action=success

Any one know where this conversion code should be placed?

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

Correctly install the code using a module or if you pasted the code remove it and add it to a common file so that it is on all pages....

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

Currently, your contact success page does not contain the analytics code. Install the script into a common file so it does and create a funnel for contact through contact success in analytics .

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

Thanks Melanie, but where/what is the contact us success page? Which common file..? I have created a unique tracking conversion code in Google for just contacting us, but just do not know where the code needs to go. I don't want it accross the whole site, just want to uniquely track people who email us...

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

That depends on where Google asks you to put the code, in the <head>, <body>?

Likely in the head or just before the closing body tag in which case you must use the method I suggested or an override for a common file for just the success page, as the contact us page is a dynamic page.

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

Conversion code needs to go between the <body> tags.

What I don't understand is your comment:
"method I suggested or an override for a common file for just the success page, as the contact us page is a dynamic page".

The success page is a dynamic page, that's why I'm a little lost... are there any tutorials or help on this?

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

If it needs to go between the body tags as you say then you can add it in your admin under Tools >> Define Pages >> Contact , but you must add it in code view.

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

OK, thanks. Pasted the conversion code in the top of the contact us page, but surely that means anyone who just browses that page without submitting an email will count as a conversion?

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

.... I thought you were creating funnel, you have created a one page conv code?

Then you must locate the checkout success template page and insert it in there.

Still applying the analytics code correctly to your website will allow you to create a funnel to track this much easier.

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

 I want to track how people get to our site and send an email enquiry - nothing to do with making a sale. To us that is a 'Lead Conversion'. A Google rep said we need to create a conversion with a tracking purpose of 'Lead' and place the code on the contact us confirmation (success) page.

There must be someone who has done this..?

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

Google analytics already has this ability.... Called funnels. The issue with the way you intend to proceed is 2 fold...

  1. No steps leading in to the conversion
  2. Your website is dynamic not static

If you had analytics installed correctly would be no problem....

Here is tutorial

Re: Google Analytics on Contact Us Success Page

Melanie you are a star, thank you. All I had to do was setup those goals. Why the Google rep could not have told me that!
