Contact form emails not arriving

  1. Contact form does not work. All other emails (emails confirming orders both to retailer and customer) work fine. However, when someone fills out the Contact Form, it is followed by the success page, but no email is ever received.

  2. What setting in Admin dictates which email address is supposed to receive emails from the contact form?

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

all the email address settings are in admin > configuration > E-mail options

Are you using a dropdown on your contact page?

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

silly question but have you checked that all your email addresses are spelled correctly?

i noticed you said the retailer is getting their copy of orders etc, is the retailer not getting these messages too?

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

Not a silly question at all. It's the first thing I checked. :)

The retailer is receiving all emails when orders are placed. But he just doesn't receive anything when someone submits in the contact form.

Could this be a web host issue? I have other design clients with the same host, and I know that when I put in a contact page for other clients, I am not allowed to use my own contact form script. I need to point the contact form to the host's own resident script. But in this case, I just figured that since ZC has its own built in mail script, it would be OK.

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

have you checked your server's logs to see if any errors are being generated.

the low res screen grab was a little hard to read, i could hardly make out how you have your site setup,
are they set to your email address and copies sent to your client or vice versa

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

What option would dictate whether the customer receives an email and a copy to elsewhere?

Also, what's the deal with setting addys in the drop down list for the contact us for? Is this required? And perhaps why we aren't receiving any email?

sorry, just zoomed in on your image and see you have copied switched on, is that your email address that is in the account creation email? if so do you receive a copy?

what version of zencart are you using?

Are you using a cusomised template? if so change it to classic and see if the problem persists

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

Yes, that is the retailer's email. And yes, he receives email when accounts are created, when orders come in, just not when contact form is used.

v1.3.9d

This particular web host requires that all contact forms on the server use their mail script. So when typically setting up a form on a page, the ACTION field needs to be http://www.thewebhost.biz/sendit/sendit4.php , and there need to be specific hidden variables added as well. Is there any way to access ZC's actual form code so that I can edit them as required?

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

If your host is hijacking the contact form to prevent spamming, there's no need. Zen Cart 1.3.9 will prevent someone from throttling the contact form. Renegotiate their policy with them.

If they are doing it for any other reason -- leave. It really concerns me when a host says you've got to use a file. If they are trying to use a band-aid here, what else could be sloppily run?

Re: Contact form emails not arriving

I can understand why a host would want to lock down a server this way. Hosts spend a LOT of money securing their servers. And many people use old mail scripts with many vulnerabilities, and they are just sitting ducks for hackers. I don't blame this host at all.

As it turns out, the problem was that my client was also using mailman in a cpanel mailing list script. As a result, the email addy he used in mailman prevented the addy from being used in other scripts. So I just deleted the mailing script (which the client is no longer using) and all mail works fine now. :)
