Shorter SEO-friendly URLs

Hello experts:

Some of my product pages the URL is really long which does not help with SEO. Here is one example:

https://mywebsite.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68_72&products_id=588

Is there anything that can be done to change this URL so search engines pick it up? Is there something built into the Zen software that will automatically generate a URL that is more "English" and SEO-friendly?

Any help will be appreciated by this noob...[:0)

Are you running your whole site in SSL?

... and BTW - while Zen Carts URL are not particularly pretty, they ARE fully index-able.

The home page is not SSL. But if I click on any product it is SSL.

That is not the way Zen Cart is designed to operate. Only the checkout should be SSL.

There was a file within Zen cart, that I had to enter all the SSL information.

But I guess my immediate question is how can I get friendlier URLs?

URL rewriting will not get better SEO, only HO (human optimization). If you still feel you want your URLs to be human-readable, there are several SEO mods for Zen Cart, both in Free Addons and elsewhere. Look through the forum for many discussions of their various merits.

You still shouldn't have SSL Catalog enabled unless your a bank. Especially if you've concerned about SEO.
