Setting up an affiliate program

Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this, particularly where to find the required software?

I have looked at those suggested under recommended services, but they're a bit out of range pricewise.

The aim would be to give affiliates a fixed amount per lead generated.

JROX is free. You only have to pay once you want more than 50 affiliates.

Other then that I don't know of any cheap & reliable affiliate software.

Thanks, how easy would it be to set up for someone with fairly basic IT knowledge?

Pretty easy. The PDF file really covers everything. As long as you know how to create a database and database user from your cpanel then you'll be fine. I recommend using the .exe installer instead of ftp method, it's a lot more automatic and for some reason my ftp files were always corrupt from my download.
