zc_install not starting, only getting blank screen

same problem here..

have tried to install a couple of times now..

uploaded all Zen Cart files via FTP to my server..

first time, i followed the install directions, which clearly say to change filenames and permissions on some files and folders..

then navigated to my install directory (index.php) and all i get is a blank white screen..

i then found this thread, saw that filenames and permissions do NOT need to be changed? so i tried a fresh install..

same result.. blank white screen..

any help is appreciated!

Which version of PHP?
Which version of Zen Cart?
What operating system is your server running?

i believe im using the most recent Zen Cart, 1.3.9e.

i may have been using an older PHP version, because the install was successful after I added "AddType x-mapp-php5 .php .php4" to an .htaccess file..

however now i am trying to migrate an OSCommerce site, and thought i was almost successful until i ran into the following error:

1054 Unknown column 'p.products_type' in 'field list'
in:
[select p.products_id, p.products_type, p.master_categories_id, p.manufacturers_id, p.products_price, p.products_tax_class_id, pd.products_description, IF(s.status = 1, s.specials_new_products_price, NULL) as specials_new_products_price, IF(s.status =1, s.specials_new_products_price, p.products_price) as final_price, p.products_sort_order, p.product_is_call, p.product_is_always_free_shipping, p.products_qty_box_status from products_description pd, products p left join manufacturers m on p.manufacturers_id = m.manufacturers_id, products_to_categories p2c left join specials s on p2c.products_id = s.products_id where p.products_status = 1 and p.products_id = p2c.products_id and pd.products_id = p2c.products_id and pd.language_id = '1' and p2c.categories_id = '0']

i have searched my databases and files for "p.products_type" and "field list" and have been unable to locate those terms anywhere?

An osCommerce database can't just be imported directly. There are many table changes.
I think there's an addon that can be used to help you in the data conversion process.

I used WinMerge to compare and change some things, but obviously i've missed something, trying to figure out what..

You're missing database table fields. You'll have to update your oscommerce tables to add the missing fields and correct any changed field types, before you can import the data and have it work in Zen Cart.
Or you can use one of the addon import tools.
