Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

I have updated the download.

jscript_model_year.js changed to .php:
correction to show breadcrumb elements in the right order on the results page (already mentioned in the thread)
correction to maintain language when selection changed
correction to allow use of commas in category descriptions (new)

modellist.php, correction to allow use of commas in category descriptions (new)

css completely changed

noscript GO buttons changed to both .gif (previously one was .jpg other was .png)

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

torvista:

  1. check what javascript is loaded on working and non-working pages: does it find jquery ok?
  2. and if you disable javascript does it work on any pages (it should)?

I'll check the jquery, thanks. If I disable javascript and press the go button it takes me back to the homepage and works...

Yes works great with JS disabled......I'm no pro when it comes to javascript any ideas? Can running 2 separate jquery files on the same page cause errors?

Error console in Firefox......but it does the same thing in all browsers. Not on the main page but on product_info pages.

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

Zen Cart version 1.3.9g
I have installed EP and Product finder and all is working well.

See site: http://tireup.net

I do have a problem that I cant seem to resolve. It appears to be a language choice error in category,s and the fix seems obvious. Add the item to Spanish language box in category's. Problem is I can do that but when I try to save the edit it will not save. Or I should say the save works but the change fails to hold.

I am looking for the answer, probably something simple but if anyone has a quick answer the the help will be appreciated.

jerr
P.S. More on the problem. If you go through the choices, make, model and year in English you have many choices. But if you switch to Spanish you will only see one choice?? Acura.

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

:dontgetit
Hi, I am fairly new at this and feeling dumb at the moment as I have installed this module, it displays with the drop down menu but I haven't figured out how the make it work!
Am using zencart 1.3.9f after having issues with OSC.
I imported a database from OSC and now have a fair munber of products with subcategories.
I installed a template called Lite Grey, but it doesn't function with classic verison either. Site using the Classic template atm.
Initial site (not live yet) at https://www.catalytiques.com/Shop
I would appreciate an enlightenment available – thanks guys

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

I (personally) cannot make the instructions in the readme any better than they are already, maybe a new user has to do that.
If you don't understand something please be specific which instruction you find unclear.

I expect your category structure does not match what the mod needs - which has been explained several times and detailed in post #19 of this thread and I'll repeat here..

This mod uses a category set-up like this

top-category -

sub-category level 1 -

    subsub-category level 2 -

        subsubsub-category level3 which contains the enabled product

Each subcategory is a drop-down.

Then you have to tell the mod which top-category to start from.

If you want the mod to work differently, then it is up to you to do it or pay for someone (not me) to do it: I did not write this, I just offered it to the community for free.

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

Here is a diagram I created for myself to help me understand
the setup. The diagram is a thumbnail so just click on it to see the full picture.

I hope this helps

I scratched my head a bunch until the picture formed in my head.

I hope that the diagram is understandable.

Not yet.

I am trying Apsona to see if that will solve my problem but its just creating another problem for me. That is the good old learning process. I have it installed but haven't figured out yet how I can import data with it.

Whats curious about the language problem is that if I enter the info, make, model and year manually it will be saved and appear in the drop downs but when I use EP it is skipped and then when I try to edit a category adding the 2nd language it wont save it. When I look in the MySql database, the entries I have made manually show language 1 and 2 but all of the entries made with EP only show language 1. There is a clue there somewhere, just wish I were more PHP and MySql literate.

Also I have installed your latest product finder update and I like the graphic. Looks good

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

Any Ideas on how to make the site faster by perhaps putting this in a popup or an Ajax script so it only loads when clicked on? Otherwise, the site has a lag everytime it loads a new page, as we have a lot of categories...

Thanks in advance.

torvista, kudos on a great module. Easy install, easy setup. I have a request to remove one of the dropdowns.......how would I do that without breaking this thing?

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

As I have never had to fix anything with this mod, I don't know how it works. You'll have to do some educational hacking and see what happens!

Get Em Fast:

torvista, kudos on a great module. Easy install, easy setup. I have a request to remove one of the dropdowns.......how would I do that without breaking this thing?

I have been going through this thing for 3 days because I wanted to do the same thing.

I don't claim to be a programmer, and I will not be responsible if this crashed the whole thing..... but, I tried this and it worked for me, so far...

In jscript_model_year.php :

$("#cPath").change(modelList);
//$("#select_model").change(yearList); COMMENTED OUT THIS LINE
$("#select_model").change(function() //CHANGED ABOVE LINE TO THIS
//Not used $("#select_year").focus(); THIS WAS ALREADY COMMENTED OUT
//$("#select_year").change(function() COMMENTED OUT THIS LINE

Then I commented out the lines that list the year on the page in tpl.header.php :
*/
echo "<li>";
$year=array();
$year[]=array('id'=>'',
'text'=>TEXT_PLEASE_SELECT
);

 	if($_REQUEST['select_model']!=""){
    $year=array_merge($year,$dropdownArray);
    }

if(isset($_REQUEST['cPath'])){
$value=$_REQUEST['cPath'];

}
if($_REQUEST['select_model']!=""){
echo '<span class="pf_selectbox_name">' . TEXT_YEAR . '</span>' .
zen_draw_pull_down_menu('cPath',$year , $value, 'id="select_year" class="pf_selectbox_text"');
}
else {

 echo '<span class="pf_selectbox_name">' . TEXT_YEAR .'</span>' .
 zen_draw_pull_down_menu('cPath22',$year , $value, 'id="select_year" class="pf_selectbox_text"');

}

echo "</li>\n";

//Begin No-Script

echo "<li>";
echo "<noscript>";
if($_REQUEST['cPath']!=""){
$value=$_REQUEST['cPath'];
}
echo zen_my_image_submit(PF_NOSCRIPT_SUBMIT, 'Go');
echo "</noscript>";
echo "</li>\n";

*/

Hope this helps.

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

bluetooth, I actually didn't get the job of doing this because I couldn't come up with a solution. But, I sure do appreciate this information, as it may come in handy in the future.

Re: Product Finder: multiple category drop-downs

Sorry,
After further testing, I have found that the modifications I made above does not work.

I will keep at it, if I get anywhere, I will post here.
