My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

hi there!

if you go to my store HERE, go to the bottom on the left you'll see the 'Information' box. There you will see the link to my forum. Once you click that link, it takes you to this location: http://www.tommydamani.com/store//forum/index.php where the actual address to my forum should be: http://www.tommydamani.com/forum/index.php !

Which is wrong! How the?

It's adding a 'store//' for some reason?

It was working once upon a time.. bug?

info:
(You are presently using: v1.3.9e)

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

You have configured the link to your forum as a relative link within your store directory.

Because your forum resides in a directory which is external to your store directory, relative links to the forum can not be used.

Can you let us know how you inserted / installed that link in first place?

tommydamani:

Sorry mate that makes no sense to me what so ever.

Can you simplify it?

What do i do to fix?

Simplified:

http://www.tommydamani.com/store/ is the URL of your ZenCart installation

http://www.tommydamani.com/forum/ is the URL of your phpbb forum installation

One installation resides in the directory store the other one resides in the directory forum. Because these 2 directories are separate directories, the link to your forum cannot be relative.

I suggest you open your includes/configure.php file and copy the first 40 or so lines including the line that says

define('DIR_WS_PHPBB',

and post it here so we can determine your file structure.

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

right i getcha.. i'm not that good with coding.. i do somewhat know how to get into a few things but mate i'm still a bit noobish.

Can you let us know how you inserted / installed that link in first place?

I think my old web designer inserted it. however, she was fired after things were set up for breaching privacy/trust. the forum link was once working i'm sure of it.. maybe cos of the zencart upgrades? perhaps the sneaky woman has gone back in a changed something? all passwords to my sites and ftp etc have been changed so unlikely but i'm no coder/web designer.. i dunno what coder/web designer are capable of.

Here is the code you requested mate

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

In your includes/configure.php file change this line

define('DIR_WS_PHPBB', '/home/tommydamani/tommydamani.com/forum/');

to read

define('DIR_WS_PHPBB', '/forum/');

Now, before your upload the changed includes/configure.php file to your server you need to change the permissions of that file to 644. After the upload change the permissions back to 444 (that is read only).

Then reload your browser and see what the Forum link does.

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

You can try to change the permissions using your FTP client. Login to your server, then navigate to the includes folder. Find the configure.php file and right-click on the file. You should see something like 'File Permissions'. Click that and change the numeric value to 644. It 'may' accept it. If it does not accept it then you will need to login to your cPanel, find File Manager and navigate to the includes/configure.php file. There you should be able to change the permissions.

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

In 'theory' this should have worked just fine ...

Not having installed phpbb on any store I am not sure if the phpbb file system requires any other configuration.

I just did a search for phpbb and came up with this listing:

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/search.php?searchid=13682658

You may need to do some more reading there - sorry.

Please post your findings

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

will do mate. the link is gone for now which is better than a broken link present. I found http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51779&highlight=phpbb but i'm not sure if that helps me. i'll continue my search and post the solution if any.

Thanks for the help mate.. best help i've received so far with out attitude from people due to me not understanding them.

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

It appears that your problem is not uncommon at all.

This post deals with the hard coding of the link:

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=597798&postcount=7

Not the most elegant way but it appears to work. More detail here:

Re: My site's 'forum' link is going to an incorrect link

My pleasure Tommy. Glad you got it working with the hard coding. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it is not the most elegant solution but it works. In this case it wouldn't really matter what definition / path you put into your includes/configure.php file.

Frank
