Adding Drop Ship fee to Weight Rate per item

We have a drop ship vendor that adds $6.50 per item drop shipped in addition to the regular Fedex/UPS ground rate.
How can we add this to the shipping total instead of the item price?

The UPS module has a 'handling fee' option in its configuration - I suspect the FedEx module does, too. You could use that.

You should add a sku prefix/postfix to the dropship items. Then customize the fed ex module (which might be tricky) to only include the fee if the item has XXSKU with XX being your prefix. Another option, just add a line item at checkout which charges that fee for each item that has the XXSKU and have it just add that additional charge. It just depends on how you want to show this fee and where.....but you need a way to identify only these dropship items.
