Requesting additional information for each product

I am setting up a shopping cart for needlepoint where we sell canvases. Each canvas would have standard attributes such as mesh size, dimensions, stitch guides. IS there a way so that on the product entry form, there can be additional line requesting this information. I am not sure if there is something out there already that would address this issue. That is precisely what I am looking to do! Is there a way to apply attributes to all the products in a category rather than going through each product one at a time? :cool:
