How do I exclude certain hidden products from the search?

How do I exclude certain hidden products from the search?

I have copies of products with the price changed to 0 that I do not want to show up in the search engine. The reason for this is that I have subcategories of products that are "free" when a certain product is purchased. However I couldn't find the options for it anywhere, how do I do this?
