USPS, UPS, etc only work when product has no model number?

Hello,

The "Regular" size does not have a model number (nor do any of the other products in the website), but the "Large" size does have a model number.

When you add the Regular size or any other product to the cart, the USPS module works, showing the USPS rates. However, if you add the Large size to your cart by itself, the cart only displays the FREE SHIPPING info. ALL products are marked "No, Normal Shipping Rules". When I remove the model number from the Large size, USPS works again.

Is this just a bug? Why would this be happening? I am removing the Large size's model number now so that the shipping will be calculated correctly, but I wanted to check here to see if anyone has any ideas. If need be, i can re-add a model number or create a new "test" product so the issue can be witnessed firsthand.

NEVER MIND...

I was not aware of the fact that gift certificate model numbers had to start with GIFT. The products in question here are Gift Tins, so their model numbers were GIFTLRG and GIFTREG. Everything works fine when a non-GIFT model number is used. Hopefully this will help others who run into the same "issue".

And for posting that the cause of the problem was using a "reserved" model prefix of: GIFT

This does control how the Product is treated ...

Are there any other reserved model prefixes, or is GIFT the only one?

Just the model where the model starts with:
GIFT
