installing new template change problems?

I am new to Zen Cart,i got it installed just fine,
My web host has it built in using Fantastico,
The default Classic Contemporary Green template works fine,
Only issue i am having is installing a new template,
I am using the one from Zen Cart free templates to test it out,
A Blue Zenfish is the one i am trying to install,
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&cPath=40_53&products_id=1336&zenid=f431cf2127a4890553694c1c78649073
i have followed the instructions and still no luck,
I am using Dream Weaver CS4 to load them to my host,
I tried installing them into the classic folder under templates,
as well the template defaults,
I just think i could be installing into the wrong area,
i will post a few images so you someone can help me,
Thanks,Chris

Suggest strongly that you do not use the FTP in Dreamweaver for anything foe a php application
I tried installing them into the classic folder under templates,
as well the template defaults,
A new template gets it's own folder under/in /includes/templates/new folder

Re: installing new template change problems?

Hi Chris,

Here is a nice Wiki page showing some tools that may be of use to you - it is many peoples personal preference as to which they use, but this should get you started: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Useful_Tools

Regarding the template system it is not daunting at all. Your template should come with a 'how to'? Usually a readme file. Have a look and see if you can follow the instructions from there - it is an important step as any addons etc that you download will require you to locate this file and follow the instructions.

Post back if you have any problems...

Re: installing new template change problems?

Thanks for the helpfull wiki,
Here is the install for the free template,
How to install this theme

**1. Copy the "includes" folder in installfiles to your website. There are no files to override. **

  1. Goto your Zen Cart administration...

Under the "Tools" menu choose
-Template Selection
-Edit
-Choose "tvzen_jellyfish" from the dropdown menu
-Click update

I understand the 2nd part,i saw it done on a video tutorial,
But for the first part, does it matter what folder i copy the include folder in,I have tried many folders and nothing worked,
Thanks,

Re: installing new template change problems?

You need to upload it to the 'root' folder - basically you'll be uploading it to where the 'includes' folder already is on your web server.

When you deleted your zc_install folder when you first installed zen cart - this is where you will upload.

Hope this makes it clearer..

Most FTP clients are drag & drop

Most well constructed modules already contain the correct folder structure

In FTP usually the left panel is your local and the right is your server
select on your local the includes folder drag & drop into the blank space on the right - -

DO NOT drop on top of a folder

The files and folders will be copied to their respective locations

I use Filezilla, it's free and it's great for your common needs. Occasionally I find I couldn't delete a directory or folder using it so I'd have to go directly to my account and delete it directly from there.
