Why do I have to type DOMAINNAME/store/index.php instead of just DOMAINNAME/store/ ?

I installed Zencart and with a location of DOMAINNAME/store
but when I type the URL in I get an error message so instead I have to type DOMAINNAME/store/index.php

I was told by website people I need a script for .HTACCESS and have been unable to find anything anywhere. Can someone help so that all pages I want changed (my admin logon requires this too) don't show the .PHP stuff/ have to type it in, thanks.

HTTP Status 404 - /store/

type Status report

message /store/

description The requested resource (/store/) is not available.

Apache Tomcat/6.0.13

Re: Why do I have to type DOMAINNAME/store/index.php instead of just DOMAINNAME/store/ ?

Hey Kobra,

Actually after searching on line for .HTACCESS locations there supposed to be here I found:

includes/.htaccess
admin/.htaccess
admin/includes/.htaccess

After looking in those locations in my install I found NO .HTACCESS files in any of the 3 directories. So that's partially the problem I'm figuring so the other part is getting a .HTACCESS file with proper script to fix the problem stated.

**Side note- I tried to re-upload the .htaccess file from the unzipped ZenCart folder via FTP (filezilla) and when I upload it in the "/admin" or any of the 3 folders mentioned above the file disappears!

Your FTP program is likely not showing them because filenames starting with "." are treated as "hidden". (That's why the "." is in the filename.)
You'll have to tell your FTP program to show hidden files if you want to see them.

Regardless, none of the .htaccess files included with Zen Cart have anything to do with whether your domain will properly load "index.php" as the DefaultDocument if you don't type it in specifically. That's something your hosting company should have done properly for you when they configured the server and set up your domain.

You may or may not have an .htaccess in the root of your site. Many sites don't.

Once you set your FTP as DrByte suggested
Look for one at the basr/root of your site
It will not be one included with the ZenCart files

As you did not provide the requested pertinent information outlined when you started your original post - I will have to guess...

Make sure to check with your host
You might add a handled directive similar to:

AddType application/x-httpd-php5 .php

I'm not sure what kobra's on about either

While it's really the responsibility of your hosting company to configure the server to handle PHP scripts properly (and I think you should be pushing on them HARD about fixing their server correctly), you can usually add the following to the "root" .htaccess to make the server recognize "index.php" as one of the default document types if it's not mentioned in the URL specifically. Just add it on a new line below whatever else is already there:```
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm

DrByte:

I'm not sure what kobra's on about either
OP did not specify server type, php version, etc...

So a handler may or may not be allowed just as a directive may or may not be allowed
I suggested a habdler for php 5.x

Oh. I see how you're looking at it.

But they did confirm that they can run PHP scripts just fine if they specify the filename. So the handler is fine. It's just not picking up the default DirectoryIndex.
