Price by attribute turned off but still adding base price

Shouldn’t this work?
The product I’m trying to setup is for a meat company. Products are priced by the pound, so I setup my base price in the product as say $5.00 and then I use attributes to setup variations of sizes and the packaging. I have the products priced by attributes turn off. I setup the attributes using the One Time Factor, so for 4 – (10oz) steaks the price factor is set to 2.5 (there’s 2.5 lbs of meat in the package).

So It looks like this.

4 - (8oz) Steaks ( $10.00 ) (2lbs)
4 - (10oz) Steaks ( $12.50 ) (2.5lbs)
4 - (12oz) Steaks ( $15.00 ) (3lbs)

Everything works fine until I add it to the cart and then it includes the base price. So instead of $12.50 for a total it is $17.50. I have the price by attribute turned off, why is this adding the base price?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You have a base price

Either priced by attributes or not

Re: Price by attribute turned off but still adding base price

Sorry must be a little thick this morning. If I turn the price by attribute on then it adds the base to the attribute pricing. I understand this and I can turn this on. What I’m trying to accomplish is to get the attribute display who the total price and look like this.

4 - (8oz) Steaks ( $10.00 ) (2lbs)
4 - (10oz) Steaks ( $12.50 ) (2.5lbs)
4 - (12oz) Steaks ( $15.00 ) (3lbs)

How do I get the display to look like this and have the price in the cart not add anything additional? I would rather not put the price in the attribute as the only price that changes is the per pound price so I would like to set it in one spot and then use the multiplier (price factor) to propagate it through the packaging variations.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Price by attribute turned off but still adding base price

You do not use factor

Set price to "" none
set price of your attributes to exactly what they are

Where there is the price box with a + in it you can remove the + and enter the price
The result will be correct

Re: Price by attribute turned off but still adding base price

But I want to use the price factor? I'm assuming it's in there for a reason?

According to the documentation, on page 168, If I set price by attribute to yes and if I set a base price and add a price factor or even a fixed value, it should show the total price next to the attribute. Mine doesn't. It actually has no effect if I turn it on or off.

Any ideas?

Use it for something else

I'm assuming it's in there for a reason?
Many - -like
ea = 1
case of 12 = 10.80$

I don't have access to the book and you may be taking this out of context or it may be flat wrong

Re: Price by attribute turned off but still adding base price

kobra, I do appreciate your efforts.

Is there anyone else that is trying to use this book by Goh Koon Hoek and is having the same problem I'm having?

Price by attribute yes or no has no effect in the display of the attribute price?

Thanks
