Removing congratualtion message in index.php changed page orientation and look

My first time using Zencart and it was going very well until i removed the "Congratulations you have succesfully installed Zencart!" message.

When i tried to change the message to welcome to our online shop the website has reorientated itslef to justify left in the browser window and all the fonts have grown leaving the site looking terrible.

I am not sure how to fix this, setting the index.php file back to the original did not help.

Any ideas?

Difficult to say for sure without a link to the site, but it sounds like you have some characters in the wrong place, probably in the index.php file, that are preventing your stylesheets from loading.

I don't know why replacing that file with the original didn't fix things, but if you'll share the URL, we can take a look.

It only seems to affect the home page, it reverts to normal view once you select another page

There are some garbage characters at the beginning of the file, probably in index.php. You can see them in the upper left corner of the page, at least in Firefox.

If you edited that file with something like Dreamweaver, that can happen. Try replacing that file with a fresh copy from the Zencart zip file, and only use a text editor to edit PHP files.

To edit the file i only used the server side text editor.

Thank you for your help the problem is fixed.

It was the server side editor adding the junk code, i used a different editor then uploaded the file to the site, all sorted now.
