Updating from 1.3.8a

Hi,

A few days ago I downloaded a template, however this was a copy of an in-use shop. It has all kinds of add-ons, and is now in total size about 100mb. The version was 1.3.8a. Now, I am going to put time in it to make it work with 1.3.9f. However, I want it to be compatible with any new versions coming out. Can I safely put the needed custom written functions for the template in the template folder so that if I update I only need to move the template folder. Also, I only want the add-ons not to be installed.

Is this possible and is this safe to use?

Re: Updating from 1.3.8a

There's no way the template itself is 100Mb, so I guess you mean the whole store is 100Mb.

We don't know anything about your template or what 'functions' you're writing and what they do, so it's hard to say for sure, but if all your changes affect only files in your override folders, you'll be OK until version 2.0 is ready.

Re: Updating from 1.3.8a

I mean, for example:

the sidebox related_categories.php uses a function, zen_clipped_string(), however this is not in the functions. In a special folder inside the template I create a folder with all the extra functions of the template. I include this folder in the loading of the page. So, when I have to update I'll just copy the folder with the template, and it will instantly work. That way I wont have to keep merging the old extra functions in the new zencart.

Is this possible?

You're making it too complicated.
If you're going to create an "extra functions" file, then just stuff it into the /includes/functions/extra_functions/ folder instead of writing new code to load the file from someplace else.

All *.php files in that folder are loaded every time a page is clicked.
