Download Option for products - Change in Filename

Hi,

I am running a shopping website where I allow people to download my softwares as zip files. Right now I have only one product.

For every month I release a new version of that product. I keep the file name as the below format

mypackage_version_x.x_file.zip

Every month I change the x.x and store the zip file in the same folder and also I will change the file name in the attribute controller.

The issue is whenever a customer register and buy the 1.1 version of my software, later when I release the version 1.2 the customer couldn't able to download the version 1.2. The customer is still pointed to version 1.1.

How can I make my customers to access the latest release whenever I release.

Need your valuable advice on this.

I use Zen Cart v1.3.8a/v1.3.8 on linux.

The table:
orders_products_download

holds the filename, maximum downloads and maximum days ...

You would need to update this if you want your customers to be able to get a different filename ...

NOTE: once changed, they cannot get the old filename as you have changed it to the new filename ...

Hi, thanks for your valuable input. Once I release the latest version I dont want allow my members to download my old versions. My members are only allowed to download the latest version which is associated with the product.

I have many members. Do you mean to say, I need to update the database via phpmyadmin whenever I chang the file name?

Is there any easiest way to do this???

If you want to change the orders_products_download and update all filenames that are currently:
fred_version_1_3.zip

to be the new filename for the upgrade to:
fred_version_1_4.zip

You can either run the command:

UPDATE orders_products_download SET orders_products_filename = 'fred_version_1_4.zip' WHERE orders_products_filename = 'fred_version_1_3.zip';

NOTE: be sure to backup your database before attempting this to ensure it is working correctly ...
