Custom template made from defult but different layout???

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to create a custom template but I run into a problem. I followed everything in the following guide:

The problem is that my custom template is a dumbed down version of Classic Contemporary Green but yet I copied those exact files for the new custom template.

Just Download that file. Then, DO NOT MAKE ANY EDITS OUTSIDE OF THE CUSTOM DIRECTORIES

Thanks for your reply. I took a look at the download and it seems that the custom template is a copy of the defult template. I repeated the same thing but it still shows up completly different comapred to the actual default template:

Is this how it should show up before I start editing?

What you have now is a copy of the default template, which is *not *the original Classic template.

In both cases, it appears that you didn't click the Reset button in Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller after you selected your new template.

You are a genius :) I now have the other bits showing on the template. I believe I'm now all set to start editing this template?

I have managed to get the design integrated. Just a couple of questions:

• How do I remove the default text on the homepage?

"Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution.
Welcome Guest! Would you like to log yourself in?"

I have used Firefox to search in /includes/languages/english.php but cannot find those lines. Perhaps the new version has those lines in a different location?

• How do I edit the meta information on the homepage? I can see how to do it for products etc but not the homepage.

If you want to find some output text to change it, use the Developers Toolkit in admin > Tools. Since long output is often created dynamically and does not exist as is in any one file, paste a distinctive snippet in the lower left box, select all files and search. Amomng the results will be the file and line number where it is defined.

We never recommend that our customers copy the default or classic to a custom directory. In so doing, they will copy over FAR more than they will ever need.

We recommend using the chart for override directories to create the directories associated with a "custom" template. Then you only need to save any file that you actually change to its override directory.

When it comes time to upgrade, you'll have far fewer files to compare during your upgrade.

Start with the files needed to establish a custom template, work with language files, create your own pages from the html_includes and move on from there, but we don't advise creating your own "forest" -- just planting a few trees in the right place.

Would it be safe to remove the directories that I didn't use? For examples I have only used images, includes/templates and includes/common.

It would be safe to remove any custom folders you aren't using, but there is no need to do so. You should remove all files that are not different from their /template_default/ or stock versions.
