Additional product fees based on State

I have a store running Zen Cart 1.3.7 and I need to add an additional fee to certain products if the order is purchased in a specific state (in this case, Oregon). I have looked through the forum threads and researched add-ons to accomplish this, but have had no luck so far figuring out how to do it.

Is there a way to apply fees to certain products in a store if the buyer lives in a specific state?

Many thanks in advance for any light that anyone can shed on this issue!

Re: Additional product fees based on State

I have realized that another way to accomplish this would be to have a different set of prices altogether for a specific state (versus an additional fee).

Does anyone know of an easy way to set up pricing based on state?

Thanks!

Re: Additional product fees based on State

I expect your second idea would be immensely harder to implement. Logic to work in checkout (or shoppingcart) and add a fee based on criteria would be much more limited in scope of code touched. Look in the wiki for discussion of BOGO and similar cart content/total manipulation (in Developers API Tutorials).

Thanks, I suppose you're right! It seems like this must be a fairly common situation, but I'm having difficulty finding any info on how to tackle it - I'll look into BOGO. Thanks again for the suggestion, I'll keep at it...
