Order created but no transaction and no payment

An order was created yesterday about 4:25pm EST that has no transaction id and no payment showing in Paypal.

Transaction ID:
Payment Type: Credit Card (WPP)
Timestamp: 2010-09-09T20:25:12Z
Payment Status: Completed
AVS Code: Y
CVV2 Code: N
Amount: XX.XX USD

If you let me know where additional information is that I can give....

Also possibly have gotten this message when working with this order.... "There was a problem retrieving transaction details. (Invalid transaction id value) 10011

Anyone have a fix for this? I have a few sites with the exact same issue. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. IPN works great (paypal standard), but express & pro do not -

they let the customer go through the process of paying
they send the customer back to my site with a successful order message
no payment is actually received by paypal though

still running v. 1.3.8a - would prefer a patch for current files or code changes. Will be upgrading in 1-2 months, but can not right now due to heavy modifications on the sites.
