What is this doing in my root folder?

Ok, my host recently added .tar zipped file in my root folder. When I opened it with winzip, I noticed it had all the files on my site.

Any idea why did they put this .tar file on my site? Is it a backup generated by my host?

Sounds like a question for your web host. However- it does sound like that's where they dumped your backup.

That's exactly what I thought.... I am almost 99% guarantee that it is some type of backup done by the host.

That is not typically where a host would store it
Most have another drive for backups
What if the drive your site is on fails???
Your backup .tar also failed

Re: What is this doing in my root folder?

Yeah, I'm not sure why they put that .tar file there. They just recently moved me to their dedicated servers, that's when I noticed the mysterious .tar folder in the root. I deleted the .tar folder from the server since I already do backups on a daily basis.
