How do you handle this? Put site on vacation

If you go on vacation is there a way to put your site on vacation? Just wondering how I would do this when we leave?

Most people i know, put an announcement on the front of the store

eg

we are away, orders will not be sent out till blah blah

and also have a vacation message set up on your order email

Depends how drastic you want to be.

  1. Leave shop open but put message on homepage, checkout (eg shipping page) & order confirmation email about delayed shipping.

  2. Put shop under maintenance with a customised maintenance message. Customer's can't place orders until you're back.

  3. Put up an "we're not here" HTML page and redirect all page traffic to this one page via .htaccess - nobody can acces your shop.
