Attributes + Different Part Numbers

Hi all,

I'm struggling a bit with the attributes feature. I have rolls of material avialable at different set lengths.. ie 10 metres, 30 metres and 50metres. Each length however has a different part number.

So white material at 10metres is White-10 but the same material at 30metres is White-30.

Is there anyway to make the part number change accordingly depending on which length the customer chooses?

Dependant attributes are not supported by default and their is no faci;ity for adding more than one model number

It would require a good bit of custom code to implement this

Attribute Problem
I am new to the community so please excuse me if I am not exactly correct in my approach. :D I need assistance with Attributes in Zen Cart 1.3.8v. I have searched numerous threads but saw nothing close to my situation.
I am trying to set up comment boxes under the image of each product item on the site that would allow the customer to personalize the product after putting it in their cart. Example: if they order 6 of one product item and/or order 8 different product items, I want them to be able to personalize each item in their cart with exactly what they want to write. How exactly can I do that? Thanks so much in advance. :smile:

To be able to do this will require much custom code

if they order 6 of one product item and/or order 8 different product items,
8 different can be done as eack is a product
6 of one with each a different added text is an issue

I followed the FAQ instructions of 'How do I add attributes to my products?", and thought everything was working well until I tested the results on my site. These are error messages I received:

Is it possible for this to work by modifying the "TEXT(this does not get an option value)" under Options Name Manager?

What you have there is not 6 of one item, but one each of 6 differently engraved items. If the actual item has one engraving field, your product should have one text field. Each different one the customer orders will show in the cart as a distinct item with its text. If they want two of one text, they can order that by selecting qty 2 when adding to cart.

But my problem is that I get multiple error messages when I tested the attributes on my site. So it appears that none of the attributes are working correctly. I really need to get this fixed so I can open the site. :frusty: Please advise if you can. Thanks!

I've been reading the Zen archives but can seem to find anything exactly like what I'm experiencing.

Technically, Display only cannot be selected, but I am not seeing anything obvious yet ...

I checked my copy of "How do I add attributes to my products?" and it states that "READ ONLY is for display purposes only and is NOT part of a calculation nor does it appear on the order. It is more or less an informational attribute that can be used with 1 to many products and then changed once to change on all products)"

I want to use TEXT as a comment box my customers can use to give me the necessary information to complete their personalized orders.

I am using TEXT and I made sure to click 'No' for "Used For
Display Purposes Only:" and 'No' for "Attribute Required
for Text:"

I can't see anything I'm doing wrong but I still get the error messages: ... Invalid Option Values Selected. I noticed this message occurs three times and I have a total of four attributes. It is my guess that the attribute (for Checkbox) is agreeable but the problem may be with the other three that require TEXT entry from the customer. If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi, I was wondering if you could post the solution here so that others may benefit from it?

I'm too looking for a way to do this.

I've thought of having someone modify "Stock by Attributes"

Stock of Attributes holds a value of the stock level, presumably in the database, so I wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to modify this to also hold a stock number. This would then just need pulling through to the invoice/orders page.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated!

Kuroi didn't bother to do that because the new Zen Cart version with the feature built in was imminent at the time. It still is, but has not arrived yet, so doing this would be good for someone with the time and skill.

I finally found the phpMyAdmin, then found what you asked about. Now I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm stuck on TEXT.
