If I modify all instances of model and replace with product id, will that work?

Not saying WILL work, but I replaced every instance of "model" with the txt "SKU" using the developers tool in admin. Also had to change the instances of "model" in the sql to coincide. The only problem I'm having now is that it isn't showing up with the products UNLESS the item is searched for. And the "Product Listing" options in the configuration in Admin still calls for "model". That, to me, is rather insignificant but may cause some problems for someone else.
