New Type of Currency?

Heya all,

I'm wondering if it's possible to add a new type of currency to Zen Cart. I know that sounds a little strange, but I can explain.

Some of the products sold in this cart are virtual, and exist only in a text-based game. These products have value in that game and are sold in-game using the currency type of that game. What I'm attempting to do, is to add that currency type to the cart.

The actual transfer of item and payment will be handled via in-game delivery. What I'm looking for is a way to price items with that type currency (one in which the shopping cart will recognize the currency, then total and process the order as usual).

Is that possible?

This will be your problem. You can create a new currency in admin, but there's no way I know to associate a currency with a specific product.

Thanks for the reply. I've been looking, but I can't even find where to add the new currency type stevesh, could you please give me a shove in the right direction?

would it be possible to associate the new currency with an entire category instead of just one specific product?

Far as I know, currency is a site-wide thing. You'd have to write code to apply it to a product or category.

It looks like the best I can do for now is create the new type of currency, and set the US Dollar conversion value of it to what is generally accepted by all the players. Users can then pick the game currency type from the currency drop down box and convert US Dollar price to the game currency price. It's not perfect, but it will work for now.

Just as an aside, do you happen to know offhand if it's possible to use a currency as an option value?
