Index page -

Hi

I'm new to Zen Cart have been using oscommerce.

The problem I have with Zen Cart is (now don't laugh) The Home page is fine, except that when I create a New Product, the Home page disappears and only shows the product details.

Im not sure what I might be doing wrong.

Any thoughts

Many thanks

Re: Index page -

Let's see your site so we may be able to see clues to the problem.

Do you have more than one product? Do you have any categories? You need a category and at least two products in it, or you might be getting the "skip listings for categories with one product" effect.

Re: Index page -

Hi

Thanks for that. When I entered another product it was all good.

However how do I get products to list in products box. Like a menu list that can be clicked on.

Many thanks

Re: Index page -

What "products box" do you mean? We need to see your site to know what you are referring to.

Do you have any categories created to hold your products? You need at least one category.

Re: Index page -

Hi

Thank you so much for your reply.

This is all a steep learning curve, as I'm familiar with osCommerce.

When I created the New Product I just used the General category.

It would appear that I need to create a new catagory. I'll try that, in the meantime Ive got the Zen Cart at https://www.kidzpatch.co.nz/Zen

Somehow I need to get rid of the SOLD OUT sign so I can take a look at Buy Now function.

Many thanks

Re: Index page -

OK, you have not created any categories, so your products are in "Top". This means that you will not be able to create categories until you delete all of your products (categories can hold either subcats or products, not both). The tutorials at the top of the page have lots of information you need to read to get started properly. In addition, you apparently did not install the demo products. You should reinstall now, with the demo products. They are all set up to teach you how to use Zen Cart features (this is not emphasized enough at install).

Once you are familiar with what the demo products have to show you, you can, if you wish, wipe the files and database and reinstall clean to start building your actual shop.

Re: Index page -

Hi Guys

I installed Zen cart via Fantastico in the CP. It doesn't seem to include any Demo, although I'll have a closer look.

Many thanks

Re: Index page -

Installing via Fantastico may be easy, but you lose flexibility. It's not difficult to download the Zen Cart zip file from this site's homepage, unzip and FTP to your server and run the installer. These are all things you will have to become familiar with soon in any case.
