Preventing products from showing up for customers

Is there a way to enter a product in admin but prevent it from showing up in the site for the customers? I am using the latest version of zen cart.

Make is as Out of Stock (products_status = 0) and it will not show in the Store ...

I have my products status set to 0 yet out of stock items continue to display in the catalog. Is there another setting I may be missing?
