Facebook Like Button

I've got this working on one cart and am looking for testers before I upload the contribution. Please contact me to get the zipped file.

This contribution uses the XFBML instead of an iframe so that it will not throw a security error on secure pages.

You will have to get an application ID from facebook in order to use this in your cart.

Re: Facebook Like Button

How is this different from the 3 other addons that claim to do similarly? This is specifically for the Facebook Like box None of the others insert the Like for the products (which by the way is pretty new). This uses the Facebook SDK which then can be used to integrate a website further with Facebook than just this. So it then becomes a base building block for anything else (and there are a lot of facebook apps).

Re: Facebook Like Button

I would love to try this. I have been unable to get the FB Like button to work on my own and I specifically want the XFBML method.

Re: Facebook Like Button

getting this error
The application ID specified within the "fb:app_id" meta tag is not allowed on this domain. You must setup the Connect Base Domains for your application to be a prefix of http://decaldude.net/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=115.

it doesnt allow you to unlike.

and it doesnt work in IE

That means either you are using an incorrect id or else you haven't changed the script to use your app id.

used the exact app id given by facebook and changed it in both of the files, so it isnt that

I even checked the forums for that error message - I don't know what it means so I would go post in the forums and see if anyone knows. http://forum.developers.facebook.net/index.php

Thanks for the fix. I am experiencing another issue. When I check any of our urls using Facebook URL Linter at http://developers.facebook.com/tools/lint/ everything looks good but when a user click on the like button it doesn't show the image on Facebook.

Thanks!

Re: Facebook Like Button

BlessIsaacola:

This is something to pay attention to with regards o the Facebook Like Button: http://www.searchmarketingman.com/2010/09/how-to-fix-like-button-bug.html

Thanks for that information. I'll include this link in the documentation. It's not about how the like button appears - but about problems with search engines. The article includes suggestions to implement but also suggests not using the XFBML Like button and using only the iframe button in the meantime. A choice not an option if you have a secure cart. The iframe will throw an error on secure pages.

Do continue posting problem reports here but remember I am a Zen Cart developer not a Facebook developer. I only followed the directions given by Facebook to create this mod. It does seem to be working but I will hold it for a while longer to see what else crops up.

I'm not seeing that happening in firefox on the site I've tested this on. Again what browser? Please try in both Firefox and IE and let me know the results.
