Facebook Like Button

not sure what to tell you then, the spider really isn't harmful but if you don't care for it then to remove the mod you just need to remove the files you uploaded and all the edits you did for it....basically the reverse of what you did to upload it.

Re: Facebook Like Button

The metatags file is in your installation includes/modules. You need to place the new one in your override directory(or create one) under modules. It is essential in order to get the correct information to show up on Facebook when someone clicks the like button. You cannot change the graphics though because the like button pulls from Facebook and there's little than can be changed. There's more information at http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/

Re: Facebook Like Button

I have been using this mod for a long time---since 1.38, but right now i created a fresh store, all freebies so it is a showcase setup with no need to have accounts since i put a download link in the descript page for items....

I installed the mod and it won't show up anywhere, I even put the code in manually from my live store where it works flawlessly. I have removed it now from this WIP store of 1.3.9h, since n sale items I did not think 1.5 was needed.

the template is Ebony and ivory : http://samwilson3d.com/ebony/

which by the way does not look like the description of it says...it do look like the demo so am happy.

anyidea what I might have done wrong, I have removed the coding totally [[hence no link to it]] since no matter where i had it to show it would only do a big gap with no words nor FB image even...which I on my live store have it with a small FB button not their own button.

or maybe I should ask in his template thread if there is one...no big deal just thought to ask in case anyone else uses this template and runs into the problem too.

Re: Facebook Like Button

DarkAngel,

I also like the Ebony & Ivory template; it is very striking and attactive...and unique. I like and have tested several of his templates: S E X Y, Alien Stemware and Ebony & Ivory.

The main problems with Ebony and Ivory, for me, can be seen here on this product:

http://samwilson3d.com/ebony/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22&products_id=34

The prev/next buttons, attributes and additional photos stacked-up in a single line or column. Contact Us back/send buttons stacked up. Virtually everything left-aligned, such as Add to Cart. Kind of like the template is trying to be a "responsive" template, but doesn't really become all that responsive - just fluid width. Also, in IE compatability view the header area gets similarly messed-up.

Wish he had a support thread, but if we post on the Templates forum someone might come along who can help.

Unless one likes the template as-is.

IMO, though, he does produce some of the more interesting and unique templates. (Very few use his S E X Y template and main product image as intended...and which is very striking itself. But major IE compatability view problem.)

*NOTE: He did reply to email some time back when I was testing the S E X Y template; perhaps he still will.

Re: Facebook Like Button

I am unable to get this to work. Can somebody please take a look and help me figure out why it's not working?

  • I am being asked to 'confirm' when liking the product
  • No image is displaying
  • Post is not displaying on FB
  • Post to facebook button does nothing

http://www.tritacsolutions.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34&products_id=41

I also tried adding a FB like button in the tpl_header.php file, but it also wanted a confirm and then it displayed an invalid image and META_TAG_FBTITLE.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Re: Facebook Like Button

Everything is there as it should be but you are also running another like button at the top of your site. You can't run both and expect the product one to work as well. The top button works fine.

Re: Facebook Like Button

Yes, I finally got the top one to work, however, the product one never worked correctly...even without the like button on the main page.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Facebook Like Button

Not without me going on your site and checking everything. But what I was saying is that if you have the top button working correctly and it shows the like correctly on facebook, then then perhaps you installed something wrong that I can't see - such as the metatags file in modules. If you have the product button working, then the top button will not show up correctly on facebook. One or the other at this point with the mod as it stands written now.

Re: Facebook Like Button

I also noticed when viewing the source code, the og:url isn't populating. Perhaps that's the root cause of my problem?

Re: Facebook Like Button

I don't know. I do know that I cannot use the product like button to post. It doesn't work at all. I have no clue about that one.

Re: Facebook Like Button

Looks like it's working now! I reapplied the meta tags file, deleted cookies, restarted browser and now it's working. Thanks for your assistance!

Re: Facebook Like Button

I haven't looked yet. The only files that are at risk in reality are the modules/metatags.php and the template html_header.php - merge those 2 and you would fine. There is one other change in tpl_product_info.php but that's the removal of the tell a friend feature which just no longer shows.

My apologies to everyone but I simply have not had the time to upgrade and package for upload any of my mods.

Re: Facebook Like Button

I took down my test 1.5 store so can't say either but i think I had installed it, there are only edits really that one needs to worry about but I agree if you merge the two or at least compare and add the edits to your current files you should work in that version too. I use 1.3.9h cause we do not use credit cards in any way, just paypal so no need to upgrade.....yet.

Re: Facebook Like Button

You have a choice of light or dark - by Facebook. This is totally pulled in from Facebook so you can't control it as you would normally. The light is what you usually see. The dark is just plain ugly as far as I'm concerned and have never seen it used.

Re: Facebook Like Button

I hoped someone had found a way around the limited text colors....damn.

FWIW,
I've installed this ad-on to my zc1.5 site, and ran into the the FBimg, FB Title issue again.
Link to another thread on this subject in case anyone has a hint or two...
