Currency conversion

I have default in US Dollars but options for GB Pound and Euro. In test mode, I received this error in the step 2 - payment information. Any help would be highly appreciated as this will be a deal breaker. I went with Zencart because it had the currency feature. I can't go live without this working.

(TESTMODE) The supplied currency code is either invalid, not supported, not allowed for this merchant or doesn't have an exchange rate. - Your credit card could not be authorized for this reason. Please correct the information and try again or contact us for further assistance.

The GBP seems to be calculating correctly in the shopping cart.

1.3.9f from 1.3.9d
authorize.net module
flat rate shipping add on
GoDaddy is hosting
First time I was able to test this as I just configured the payment module.

Could it be simply because of it being in test mode?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Currency conversion

What currencies have you negotiated to be supported in your Authorize.net account?

Re: Currency conversion

I am checking with the customer on this. When I contacted authorize.net, they stated:

"I am sorry but Authorize.Net only supports transactions in U.S. dollars (USD) for U.S. based merchants. For information on accepting global payment types, please see the CyberSource Web site at: www.cybersource.com."

So I have to wonder, can Zencart be configured to display converted Euro and GBP but, in the end, actually charge USD? That would solve this problem I think.

Thanks!

Re: Currency conversion

You could write your own custom code to convert it for submission.

Re: Currency conversion

Write my own code? Not going to happen.

So you don't think I missed a configuration setting or that test mode is creating the problem?

Your earlier reply seemed to suggest that you've seen this work before with authorize.net. If so, I can press them and find a more-informed support person there.

Love your tag line.

Now, at least I'm better informed and will put more emphasis on an authorize.net solution while I continue to look for solutions.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Currency conversion

Authorize.net has always supported only USD. And the Zen Cart modules for Authorize.net do not do any currency conversion: they were written with only USD in mind.

If you want to accept payments in alternate currencies, the generally accepted practice as enforced by merchant account companies is to create multiple merchant accounts, ie: one for each bank account, since each bank account handles only one currency.

Re: Currency conversion

Dr. Byte,

It seems the easiest way to make this work is to somehow display the USD, GBP or Euro pricing as requested by the end user but actually pass USD to authorize.net. This is the code you wanted me to write (ROFL)? Sorry, but code is not my forte.

In your opinion, how long would it take a competent coder/programmer to write the code if I had to hire someone to do it?

I think multiple merchant accounts is probably out of the question because of the customer's low volume of sales and the recurring costs the additional merchant accounts would incur.

If you would like to see the site, it is at staffordshire-enamels.com, but it is in maintenance mode so I would need your IP (unless you have your own work around for that).

Thanks again for your help. Zencart is awesome, just difficult sometimes.

Re: Currency conversion

So, you're a UK company with a USD merchant account? How'd you swing that?

Re: Currency conversion

The products are made in England. The company's principles live in New York. So I guess, the company is in the US and the factory is in the UK, although I think they want things to look like a UK company (e.g. the spelling of some words... catalogue).

So I can tell my customer, how much time/cost do you think this piece of code would be?

On the other side of the set of options and for your (and other Zenners information), I talked to CyberSource, who owns authorize.net. They replace authorize.net when you have a merchant account that supports multiple currencies. They suggested Chase Payment Tech or First Data. Good stuff to know, no?

I have to admit, ZenCart has been a real learning experience.

Re: Currency conversion

LOL. Visa owns CyberSource, which owns Authorize.net. And they're direct competitors to Chase and FirstData. Curious that they're recommending their competition.

Re: Currency conversion

My my. This gets better and better as the day goes on.

Interesting because Cybersource said they will be the gateway for either Chase or First.

Okay, back to the question at hand. What is entailed in that piece of code? How long do you think it would take? Did you write the authorize.net module? If not, who might I contact? Obviously, that person would be the most familiar with the easiest way to accomplish the task.

Re: Currency conversion

There are 3 Authorize.net modules built-in to Zen Cart. Which one are you talking about?

Re: Currency conversion

Further, the Authorize.net modules don't support Maestro/Switch/Solo cards which are common in the UK.

AIM module, which authorize.net told me was the preferred one.

Re: Currency conversion

Also, we use the standard US cards, Visa MC Amex, not the foreign ones.

Additionally, all pricing on the cart is entered in USD, so if somehow, just before the packet is sent off to authorize.net, the system can grab the variable in the default USD, it seems like an easy fix... But I am not a programmer and don't really want to make unfounded assumptions. It just SEEMS like a simple solution.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Currency conversion

Try this:

edit /includes/modules/payment/authorizenet_aim.php:

At line 361 you should see this:unset($response); $response = $this->_sendRequest($submit_data);Add some new code ABOVE that, as shown here:```
if ($order->info['currency'] != 'USD') {
global $currencies;
$submit_data['x_amount'] = number_format($order->info['total'] * $currencies->get_value('USD'), 2);
$submit_data['x_currency_code'] = 'USD';
unset($submit_data['x_tax'], $submit_data['x_freight']);
}
unset($response);
$response = $this->_sendRequest($submit_data);

Re: Currency conversion

**DrByte,

Thank you. Thank You. Thank you. Thank You. Thank you. Thank You. Thank you. Thank You. Thank you so very much.

It appears to be working perfectly, right down to the e-mail confirmations still showing the GBP or Euro. I just can't thank you enough.

Hopefully others will benefit from this thread and your help.**
