how to make "back" button really go back?

In my site (https://www.best4future.com), all the pages defined by "Define Page Editor" has a "back" button in the end of the page. But that "back" button leads to "page not found" page.

How can I edit so that the "back" button really goes back to the last page?

Provide clicks that do not work....

I went to
/kitty-goes-fishing-p-69
Then selected
/shippinginfo
Pressed back and was returned to
/kitty-goes-fishing-p-69

If there are issues it is most likely you SEO url mod as these are known to be glitchy and are unnecessary

which file in which folder defines the link with that "Back" button?:(

The "back" button is not only in shippinginfo.php, but appears in about us, conditions, contact us, privacy, site map. etc.

When you place the mouse over the "Back" button, in the left corner of the brower you can see the link "http://www.best4future.com/page_not_found". When click the button, of course, you will be led to "Page Not Found"....

On the tpl_about_us_default.php, I found the code liket this

Nothing looks wrong to me.....I turned on another computer and saw the same problem...

About "cookies", I clean them pretty frequently...

It works OK in Firefox, but does what lina said in IE. The IE Web Developer says that that button is hard-coded to the 404 page.

I'm guessing it has something to do with your URL re-writing mod. You might try turning that off temporarily to see if it still does it.

It is not hard coded in ZenCart

I am having the same problem. I had ultimate SEO loaded and backed all files out and changed back original file modifications. But, still getting back button going to page not found.

The default code does not have the issue so there is no issue to resolve....

If it was altered by anything then one must look to that for an answer....
Bottomline it is not part of the supplied ZenCart code

Thank you for responding. I have gone back through lots of files. I am very weak at php. Do you have any suggestions on where to continue looking for problem? or any direction?

I have gone back through all files with Ultimate SEO and none on my site. I removed all of them and made sure files that were changed - I changed back to original.

I recently had Ceon's uri mapping installed by ceon. And emailed him and he said it is not his software. But there is bad or corrupted file somewhere. It is also having effect on my EZ pages. They are also going to page not found...site map, shipping, privacy notice, conditions of use, discount coupon, gift certificates, contact us... all go to page not found and back button does not work. All files have same zen_back_link(). But using developers tool kit show other files with same link that are re-directed and work.

This is very frustrating. :frusty:Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Try clearing your browser cache, or if you are behind a router sometimes it has a cache and you can run from a cmd session

ipconfig /flushdns

to clear it

Yes, it is https://www.burnerbooks.com. Are you looking in IE? I went back to I.E. and cleared browser cache and still does not work. I am still getting page not found. You can see it in left corner when you hoover over back button.

i have the same problem. the only difference is that it works as expected in FF and IE. However, in Chrome it seems no matter what page I was on previously, the Back button always goes to page not found. When I hover the mouse over the Back button the Chrome window shows me the link to the page not found page.

I do not have any URL modifying mods installed and never have.

Do you have js enabled in chrome?

yes, allow all sites to run javascript is enabled with no exceptions.

Back button worked just fine in FF 3.6.12 and IE 8.0.6; and using IE 7 compatibility mode.

Is there a specific methodology using the Back button that you would like us to try?

i have no issue in FF or IE. I only experience this issue in Chrome 7.0.517.44.

Ceon fixed it!! I am so grateful. It had something to do with my header.
Here is his explanation if someone else gets stuck.
This one truly drove me over the edge.

Found out that you hadn't got any text defined for
HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, so it was building a URI of
includes/templates/template/images/
which was causing the Zen Cart 404 page (page not found page) to be loaded, which is then recorded in the Zen Cart session history, messing up the zen_back_link function.

I commented out the line which loaded in this messed up header image link in includes/templates/template/common/tpl_header.php.
